AAIFF10: Call for Entries

33rd Asian American International Film Festival
July 15 - 24, 2010

Submit your film to the first and longest running festival to recognize the works of Asian and Asian American media makers. The 33rd Asian American International Film Festival (AAIFF10) is now accepting submissions in the following categories.

  • Narrative Features
  • Documentary Features
  • Short Films
  • Music Video
  • Screenplays
  • Works-In-Progress
  • Youth Films (by filmmakers under 20)

Early Deadline (postmarked): Jan. 27, 2010
Final Deadline (postmarked): Feb. 24, 2010

General Guidelines:

  • Works must have been completed after January 1, 2009.
  • Submission materials will not be returned.
  • Submission format is DVD (NTSC, Region 0 or 1 only).
  • Check to make sure your DVDs play on standard DVD players from beginning to end without skipping or getting stuck. Malfunctioning DVDs may be disqualified.
  • Each entry must be clearly labeled with: director's name, work title, total running time, WAB tracking number.
  • Each project must be on a separate DVD. Do not submit compilations and /or other projects not intended for this Call.
  • If selected, exhibition DVDs, tapes or film must be sent PRE-PAID to the Festival.
  • If selected, AAIFF will cover return or forward shipping of exhibition tapes.
  • All applicants will be notified by email mid-May 2010.
  • You must contact us immediately if you desire to pull your work from our consideration.
  • The Festival does not pay rental fees.

Submission Requirements:

  • Feature submissions must have a running time of at least 50 minutes; Short Film submissions running time must not exceed 40 minutes.
  • For Youth by Youth submission must provide prove of age with submission materials.
  • Feature submissions must submit 4 preview copies.
  • Short Film and Music Video submissions must submit 2 preview copies.
  • Youth Film and Work-in-Progress submissions only require 1 preview copy.
  • A press kit is only required after acceptance.

Features

AAIFF is open to completed film and video submissions in all genres produced, written, or directed by media makers of Asian descent from any nationality, or about the Asian community. First- or second-time directors are eligible for the Emerging Director Award. This is a juried award.

Short Film Competition

AAIFF Short Film category is open to all completed film and video films in all genres produced, written or directed by media makers of Asian descent from any nationality, or about the Asian community. Shortlisted films will vie for the Excellence in Short Filmmaking Award. This is a juried award.

Music Video

AAIFF Music Video category is open to all completed film and video produced, written or directed by media makers of Asian descent form any nationality.
There are no entry fees for this category.

Screenplay Competition

The 10th annual AAIFF Screenplay Competition accepts completed feature length scripts by writers of Asian descent of any nationality. Shortlisted finalists are eligible for the Best Screenplay award, which will be decided by a panel of judges. The winning screenplay will have a live staged reading during the Festival.

Works-in-Progress

The AAIFF Works-in-Progress category is open to all uncompleted film and video submissions produced, written or directed by media makers of Asian descent from any nationality. The works must be feature-length of any genre. The selected work will be part of a Works-in-Progress workshop at the Festival.
There are no entry fees for this category.

For Youth by Youth

The AAIFF accepts completed film and video submissions produced, written, or directed by youth media makers of Asian descent from any nationality between 15-20 years old. The films must be short form of length not exceeding 40 minutes. The subject matter must be relevant to and about Asian American youths. Selected films are eligible for The One to Watch Award, which will be voted on and decided by the audience.
