Contemporasian
At MoMA: CAMPAIGN (SENKYO)
Tix Giveaway!

In a new monthly film series Contemporasian, MoMA, with support from ACV, is showcasing films that get little exposure in the US, but which engage the various styles, histories, and changes in Asian cinema. Presented in special weeklong engagements, the films in the series include both recent independent gems and little-seen classics.

CAMPAIGN (SENKYO)
Director Kazuhiro Soda's debut feature, shot in cinéma vérité style, follows his former Tokyo University classmate Kazuhiko Yamauchi's run as a "parachute" candidate for Japan's powerful Liberal Democratic Party in a crucial local district. This fly-on-the-wall view of street-level politics cleverly reveals much about the true nature of "democracy." Soda will be on hand to introduce the film and lead a discussion following the April 7, 7PM screening.

When: April 7-13
Where: MoMA, 11 W 53rd Street (btn 5th & 6th aves)
Tickets: Free ticket for first 10 guests at each screening! Score a complimentary ticket to the screening when you say "Asian CineVision" at the door. Limited supply. First come, first served. ACV members receive discount at box office.

DARK MATTER - 30th AAIFF Centerpiece Presentation
Best Narrative Emerging Director Award winner Chen Shi-Zheng's stunning feature film debut becomes a compelling metaphor for the gulf between what director Chen has called "the idea of America and the America [that is] experienced." The star-studded cast features Liu Ye (CURSE OF THE GOLDEN FLOWER, BALZAC AND THE LITTLE CHINESE SEAMSTRESS), Aidan Quinn, and Meryl Streep.
Opens Friday, April 11 at Village East Cinema. For more info, visit the official website.

NEVER FOREVER - 30th AAIFF Closing Night Presentation
Director Gina Kim uses melodrama as a starting board and reworks the genre's formal qualities and tropes to create an exquisite film about female desire and self-empowerment. Anchored by Vera Farmiga's (THE DEPARTED) fearless and powerful performance, the film is an unflinchingly honest look at interracial relationships and sexuality.
Opens Friday, April 11 at the Landmark Sunshine Theatre. For more info, visit the official website.
