Theater for a benefit screening of CAVITE, an award-winning
film that has been earning raves from critics and audiences
all over! Made on a miniscule budget, this indie thriller
follows Adam, an American who is visiting his home country
the Philippines for his father’s funeral. After
he’s arrived, he receives an anonymous call telling
him that his mother and sister have been kidnapped and
will be killed if he doesn't comply with his demands.
Against his wishes, he finds himself caught in a terrorist
plot that forces him to make a life-or-death decision.

3RD ANNUAL 72 HOUR FILM
SHOOTOUT
June 9-12, 2006 | Nationwide
The Shootout is a nationwide
competition where filmmaking teams have 72 hours to
write, shoot, edit and produce short digital films up
to six minutes in length and based on a common theme.
The intention of this competition is to create opportunities
for Asian Americans to demonstrate their talent, gain
exposure in the entertainment industry, and impact the
visibility of Asian American stories and characters
in film and television. At least one key production
member and a principal actor from each team must be
of Asian descent.
On June 9th, 2006, at 8:00pm, the 3rd Annual 72 Hour
Film Shootout will commence. The competition theme will
be announced at the New York City launch party and simultaneously
relayed over the internet to out of town competitors.
This year, The Shootout anticipates 75 to 100 teams
with an average of five people per team (a total of
375 to 500 participants). In addition, over 300 attendees
are expected at each of The Shootout events (Launch
Party, Wrap Party, After Party, Screening) not including
the countless numbers of spirited supporters and enthusiasts. REGISTRATION DEADLINES:
Early bird May 12; Regular June 2; Late June 8.

WANTED: KOREAN AMERICNA FILMMAKERS

DEADLINE MAY 31, 2006
WHAT: In a major initiative to nurture and encourage emerging Korean American filmmakers to bring their stories to the screen, the Korean Film Council (KOFIC) has launched the KOFIC Filmmakers Development Lab.
Inspired by similar creative environments such as the Sundance Screenwriters Lab, the KOFIC Filmmakers Development Lab is seeking applicants from the United States and Canada with a view to realizing projects that can find audience appeal in both Korea and North America. The Lab will be held in Hawaii in early September, in partnership with the Academy for Creative Media at the University of Hawaii in Honolulu. Following in October, the Lab fellows will be brought to the Pusan International Film Festival in Korea to meet with relevant film industry representatives and organizations whom could potentially produce their projects.
