The
Friday Literary Salon: Ed Lin, This Is A Bust
Presented by the Asia Society
The Asia Circle’s Friday
Literary Salon series continues. Hear from the authors
your friends are talking about. Asia Circle brings you into
its Literary Salon with this series of events, featuring Asian
and Asian American authors discussing their latest works.
Step inside. Enjoy cocktails at the Leo Bar after your literary
fix.
This Is A Bust turns the conventions of hard-boiled pulp
stories on their head by exploring the unexotic and very real
complexities of New York City's Chinatown, circa 1976, through
the eyes of a Chinese-American cop. A Vietnam vet and an alcoholic,
Robert Chow's troubles are compounded by the fact that he's
basically community-relations window-dressing for the NYPD.
But when his superiors remain indifferent to a Chinese woman's
death, he takes matters into his own hands. This Is A
Bust is at once a murder mystery, a noir homage, and
portrait of a neighborhood in flux. Lin’s first novel
Waylaid was the basis of the movie THE MOTEL.
ACV's Acting Director John Woo will interview Lin, wtih a
book signing to follow.
When: Friday, May 2, 7PM
Where: Asia
Society, 725 Park Avenue (at 70th St)
Tickets: $10 Members, $10 Students w/ID,
$12 Nonmembers. Buy
