SLOW JAM KING OPENS JUNE 9
Asian Cinevision and the Asian American International Film Festival (AAIFF) are extremely excited to announce the theatrical release of SLOW JAM KING, the feature film debut by Steven E. Mallorca. Winner of the AAIFF Emerging Director Award, SLOW JAM KING has simultaneously entertained and defied definition, being described as a “genuinely moving”, “weird-ass magnum opus” that is “somewhat revolutionary in that there's nothing else out there in the wide world of film quite like it.” SLOW JAM KING is a true testament to the do-it-yourself aesthetic. The feature film debut of Steven E. Mallorca, who wrote, directed, produced, photographed and edited the film as well as composing and performing most of the film’s featured music, is an auteur in the old-fashioned sense of the word.

ACV ANNOUNCES FINALISTS FOR THE 2005-06 ABC NEW TALENT DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
Asian CineVision is proud to present its finalists for the 2005-2006 New Talent Development Program. The finalists are: J.P. Chan for his screenplay, CHINOS Y NEGROS, and Rehana Mirza for her screenplay BHANGING IT.
J.P. Chan’s CHINOS Y NEGROS is a feature screenplay about the clash of race, class, and identity in a rapidly gentrifying Brooklyn neighborhood. It is an exploration of two little explored aspects of New York City life: the rapid spread of gentrification since the mid-1990s and the enduring yet fluid tribalism of its citizens. J.P. is a filmmaker and playwright living in Brooklyn and a member of the Ma-Yi Writers Lab.
Rehana Mirza’s BHANGING IT is a feature length screenplay that explores the hot Bhangra dance scene. A young college freshman, Anita Prasad, gets an introduction to the world of Bhangra dance competition and discovers more about herself and her friendships along the way. Rehana is a screenwriter and a playwright and co-founder of Desipina & Company, a fusion arts organization that exists to acknowledge the unique differences that exist within the Asian American communities and to tell stories that would otherwise go unheard.
The panel consisted of three industry professionals: Anne del Castillo , Associate Director of Development and Special Projects at P.O.V; Senior Producer Lee Skaife has spent the past 10 years working in on-air promotions and public service announcements at National Basketball Association Entertainment; Sikay Tang makes photographs and videos and works as a video editor and colorist in the film industry in NYC.
Congratulations to the winners and thank you to all applicants who submitted! Good luck in the final rounds with ABC!
