ONE NIGHT IN MONGKOK
Directed by Derek Yee | 2005 | 110 min | Hong Kong | In Cantonese & Mandarin w/ES
Daniel Wu (Jackie Chan's NEW POLICE STORY) and Cecilia Cheung (Chen Kaige’s THE PROMISE) both give electrifying performances in this nail-bitingly intense actioner directed by Derek Yee, winner of Best Screenplay and Best Director at the 2005 Hong Kong Film Awards. Mainland China hitman Loy (Wu) sneaks into Hong Kong's seedy Mongkok district to kill a local gang leader. He unexpectedly saves and befriends Dan Dan (Cheung), a prostitute who also becomes his guide to Mongkok's dense urban jungle layout. Hot on Loy's trail is Inspector Milo, who is determined to capture Loy before he kills his target. Nominated for 12 awards at the 2005 Hong Kong Film Awards, including Best Actress and Best Actor, ONE NITE IN MONGKOK is a gritty, uncompromising noir-like action thriller.
"This sharply edited thriller shows a succulently seamy side of Hong Kong not often seen in movies." - G. Allen Johnson, San Francisco Chronicle
