Happy Valentine’s Day from the staff at Asian CineVision! Although it is usually the celebration of one’s appreciation for their significant other, we’d like to show our appreciation for our supporters. What better way than to have ACV’s staff recommend some of their favorite AAIFF’12 films that are best to watch on Valentine’s Day!

SHANGHAI CALLING dir. Daniel Hsia

(STAFF’S NOTE: Ladies, if you’re single on Valentine’s Day, this film is sure to lift your spirits because.. well, Daniel Henney is just not bad to look at for 100 mins. This is a great watch for couples as well because it is filled with lots of humor and a beautiful cinematography of Shanghai. YES WE’RE OPEN dir. Rich Wong

Uncommonly sharp-witted and brilliantly acted, YES, WE’RE OPEN presents Luke (Parry Shen) and Sylvia (Lynn Chen), a couple who think of themselves as open and modern—until they meet Elena (Sheetal Sheth) and Ronald (Kerry McCrohan). The polyamorous nonconformists take the couple into the unconventional world of San Francisco relationships that test their boundaries of love, sex and honesty.

LOVE, NY dir. Vincent Lin

A lonely Korean visitor (Jae Suh) in New York City stumbles into a vacant bar owned by George (Randall Park). When George discovers it is her last night in New York and she hasn’t done anything a tourist should have done, he takes her on an adventure neither will forget.

(STAFF’S NOTE: A chance encounter that could change everything. A delightful short filled with great comedic timing – this will definitely make you want to plan your next trip to NYC!)

MY SPIRITUAL MEDICINE dir. Liang Cheng

Two white-collar clerks sets up a private radio program in the buzzling Shanghai. An Otaku lady lives in isolation. As the random fates of individuals are linked and changed by the radiowave, love, in all possible forms, burgeons.

(STAFF’S NOTE:  Winner of AAIFF’12 Excellence in Short Filmmaking Award, MY SPIRITUAL MEDICINE is great story about the love in a friendship – a bond over the same passion. A film to be seen!)
