Weekly Buzz 03/08 – Meet our staff, DON’T STOP BELIEVIN’, 21 AND OVER cast & More

Hope you all had a great productive week. We’re ending it with ACV’s weekly buzz:

1. MEET AAIFF’13 PROGRAM ASSOCIATE – LESLEY YIPING QIN

Hailing from Shanghai, Lesley is going on her 2nd year officially with the ACV family. Starting off as an audience member at our festival, to being an intern, and now an official staff, we’re so glad to have her. Read how she got involved (stuck) with us here.

2. DON’T STOP BELIEVIN’: EVERYMAN’S JOURNEY OPENS IN THE QUAD CINEMA 03/08 – 03/10 (NYC)

Don't Stop Believin_FILM
Who didn’t sing the iconic song by Journey during those late night karaokes? We at ACV are definitely guilty. Don’t Stop Believin’: Everyman’s Journey,” directed by Ramona S. Diaz, is the real-life rock-n-roll story of Filipino singer Arnel Pineda, a formerly homeless teen who was plucked from YouTube by lead guitarist and founding Journey member Neal Schon to become the front man for the iconic American rock band and a real-life celebrity. For more details visit here.

(Psssst – there’s a special ticket discount for ACV Members. You love discounts right?)

3. CINEVUE x 21 AND OVER CAST

21ANDOVER

21 AND OVER had a great opening weekend coming in third. CineVue had a chance to catch up with the cast before their big day to chat about their experiences on making the film. Read it here.

4. COLLEGE HUMOR x HAWAII FIVE-O

Actors Eugene Cordero and Kulap Vilaysack are natural fits for Hawaii Five-O and they got a message for the show’s producers.  See what we mean here.

5. SIUNIVERSE MEDIA x BEYOND THE BAD AND THE UGLY

On March 23, our friends at SIUniverse Media are organizing “BEYOND THE BAD AND THE UGLY” — the first-ever Asian American summit on stereotypes, at Los Angeles’s Japanese American National Museum. We’ll be bringing together an amazing group of Asian American artists, academics, advocates and critics for a candid discussion of negative and distorted images of Asians in U.S. popular culture — and how to address, erase or subvert them.

Help them make an historic event come to life by donating to their indiegogo campaign.
