COVID-19 UPDATES

July 27, 2020

Dear Friends of ACV,

Asian CineVision is excited to announce that the 43rd Asian American International Film Festival (AAIFF43) will take place October 1st-11th, 2020, in an entirely online format for the very first time!

This is a challenging year for everyone, and we find it more important than ever to provide a space for critical reflection. After meticulous research and discussion, our Board and staff has decided that shifting to an online festival is the best and most accessible way to celebrate the power of cinema while keeping our audience, staff, and artists safe.

Though there’s a certain magic that can only exist within an in-person festival, we are excited for the opportunity to bring the conversation to a broader audience, and to explore new ways to experience Asian diaspora storytelling. Our programming has always worked to push boundaries, empower marginalized voices, and spark a dialogue. We will continue to do so uncompromisingly for AAIFF43.

More details on how to participate will be shared in August, while the full lineup will be made available starting in September. To stay updated, connect with us through our newsletter, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram

If it is within your means, please consider making a contribution to Asian CineVision. It is a difficult time for all arts and culture nonprofits across the country, and your support is what makes our film festival possible. Every dollar counts as we work to produce AAIFF43 and build resources for independent API filmmakers.

See you in the Fall!

April 5, 2020

To ACV’s Friends and Supporters,

After much deliberation between our Board, staff, and community members, Asian CineVision formally announces the postponement of the 43rd Asian American International Film Festival (AAIFF43). New dates in autumn will be decided within the next couple months; please subscribe to our newsletter to stay up-to-date.

Although the original dates (July 30th – August 8th) are well over three months away, we find it crucial to adapt to the ongoing situation and impact of COVID-19. We aim to comply with the recommended CDC social distancing guidelines and as a result, the Board and staff are revising our approach to our annual film festival.

Currently, we are working together with fellow AAPI film festivals and cultural groups to research and prepare a secure, accessible, and forward-thinking solution. This may likely come in the form of a virtual and/or scaled-down festival. Throughout this planning phase, we will consult with our submitted filmmakers and community partners to ensure we fulfill our mission.

Having said this, our submission deadline is now extended through April 24 for filmmakers with festival circuit plans disrupted by COVID-19. Please review our eligibility guidelines and categories on FilmFreeway, and then email submissions@asiancinevision for a deadline waiver+discount code that will reduce fees to Regular Deadline pricing.

Though we face a time of uncertainty, there is one thing we do know: ACV will continue to stay committed to this community, as it has for the past 45 years. We’ve watched as a new productivity has surged through API storytellers; how can we take this energy and continue to move us forward? The dialogue that we have started is important and there is still so much to say.

Let’s stay safe. We still need to hear your story.

P.S. As we do our part by quarantining ourselves, let’s stay social! ACV’s year-round programming is also shifting to online-optimized experiences. Social Watch Parties, teach-in sessions, and panels will all be announced on our social media channels as they develop.

Hello ACV Community,

We hope you are staying well and are taking measures to keep yourself healthy!

We at ACV have been closely monitoring the situation with COVID-19. As of now, we are continuing with plans to host AAIFF43 this summer (Jul 30-Aug 8). If you submitted a project, rest assured we are using this time to thoroughly review!

However, all of our in-person events for the rest of March have been postponed—including our ACV Staff Interest Meeting. If you would still like to join our staff, most of our work can be done remotely so consider applying or sending inquiries to hr@asiancinevision.org.

We are also extending our Submission Deadline for films that were affected by the updates with SXSW and Tribeca. If you were unable to screen as planned and would still like the opportunity to submit to AAIFF43, please email submissions@asiancinevision.org for a deadline waiver.

That being said, this is a rapidly evolving situation and we are complying with public health recommendations to ensure the safety of our volunteers, artists, and audience. To stay up-to-date with developments in ACV programming, keep your eyes on our social media and email newsletter.

With all the precautions being implemented to #FlattenTheCurve, many of our community members are being severely impacted. Here are some resources to consider:

We are all in this together so let’s do what we can to help others and to prevent the spread of misinformation. Compassion and care is what will get us through this.

Stay safe!
