Name: Matthew K. Yee

Position at ACV: Social Media & Website Manager

What brought you to Asian CineVision (ACV)?
This summer I didn’t want to work at a summer camp anymore and wanted a change. I heard about ACV from a friend and she told me to apply. I browsed through their website and I thought it would be cool to work at a film festival. And I always wanted to experience NYC, so this was a great opportunity.

What is your favorite part about being at ACV so far?
The atmosphere. It’s really chill to be able to do whatever I want with social media. It gave me a bigger interest towards social media marketing and public relations – something I wouldn’t mind doing later as a career. AND OF COURSE, can’t forgot the lovely staff. We blast disney songs …. no shame.

Asian CineVision has been around for over 35 years. Why is it important that an organization like Asian CineVision should still exist?
Do we ever hear about Asian Americans acting and producing movies? Mainstream entertainment never has more than 1 or 2 Asians in their films, and most of the time – they demonstrate a stereotype. ACV is promoting films that show a true representation of Asian Americans without the negativities. They provide a global perspective, share stories, and remind us to find unity in diversity.

What should people expect from the 2013 Asian American International Film Festival
A hella good time, you just have to come out and witness it for yourself. #TRUST

What is a fun fact about yourself?
I’m a third degree black belt in taekwondo & a brother of Lambda Phi Epsilon.

If you can be anything in this world, regardless of money or status, what would it be and why?
I would live up my childhood dream and be a Super Saiyan. Are you kidding me, what kid growing up in the 90’s didn’t like DBZ? I could fly, blast energy out of my hands, have superhuman strength, and have gold hair! #DOPE
